The sermon will walk through the stories that are connected in Lk 5 focusing on the Word Everything.

Jesus fed 5,000 people and walked on water. Jesus is the Bread of Life

Jesus' claims and defense of deity- fully God, fully man

Jesus was persecuted for breaking legalistic rules (5:1-16) but He used it as an opportunity to expose legalism and reveal His identity (5:17-47).

Themes of resurrection in the gospel of John. Jesus died like a helpless lamb but He was raised like a powerful lion (Rev 5:5-6). Emphasis: We died and were raised with Christ.

Living water for thirsty people.

Jesus' ministry parallels and surpasses John's. a) Jealousy and competition (v.22-26) b) Humility (v.27-30) and greatness (cf. Luke 7:18-25  key Luke 7:28). John humbled himself and Jesus exalted him  c) Jesus is above all (v.31-36). We must decrease. It is not about us. It is all about Him. Jesus must increase until everything is under his feet and everyone confesses that He is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

Nicodemus interviews Jesus at night: a) Experience the New birth - born of water and the Spirit (3:3 & 5) b) Receive the New life - Believe in Jesus (3:16).  c) Live in God's light (v.19-21).

Jesus clears the temple.
